Satellite Centres Design and Construction
The Satellite Centre project involved the design, contractor procurement and construction of 14 Satellite Centre strategically distributed over the 185 km ORT (Open Road Tolling) network in the Greater Johannesburg area in the Provice of Gauteng, South Africa. Their function is to provide support to the ORT Central Operations Centre, to house emergency services and to provide a customer support network for Open Road Tolling.
Tolplan and the Tolplan design business unit was responsible firstly for the design activities of the Civil and Mechanical & Electrical disciplines of the Satellite Centre project, which formed part of the bigger ORT (Open Road Tolling) Project.
Tolplan (Pty) Ltd was then responsible for the construction supervision of the contractor during the construction phase of the project. Their main focus was to ensure the contractor constructed the facilities in accordance with the provided drawings and specification. Tolplan (Pty) Ltd was also responsible for the contract administration and fulfilled the role of “The Engineer” under the FIDIC Red Book Contract.
