COC Design & Construction
Gauteng Open Road Tolling System Facilities: Central Operations Centre, Samrand.Tolplan formed part of and played a leading role in the team that was appointed for the Design and Construction Supervision of the COC. Tolplan formed part of and played a leading role in the team that was appointed for the Design and Construction Supervision of the Central Operations Centre (COC). The Open Road Tolling System collects information at tolling points and assimilates this at a central point, the COC. The COC houses the ORT Operator, the Transaction Clearing House (TCH) and the Violations Processing Centre (VPC). It further includes a Network Management Centre (NMC) from where SANRAL will manage the ITS/IMS functions on the Gauteng Network.
Tolplan (Pty) Ltd was appointed to manage, plan, design and implement the R200m, 20,315 square metres Central Operations Centre. The building was designed to not only leave a legacy, but at the same time to symbolise the vibrant “business” of Gauteng, as the “heartbeat” of Africa.
The Detail Design and Construction Supervision Business Unit provided a highly skilled and experienced team of Project Managers, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Multidisciplinary Engineering Technicians, draughts people and support personnel who managed, planned and designed the building from inception to the close out of the project. During the construction stage a team of highly skilled and experienced professionals supervised the Construction Activities. This team was supported by an equally strong Head Office supervision team.
The project’s programme called for a fast tracked design and procurement phase, which was completed in a record breaking 10 months. The construction stage was completed in another 14 months, overcoming environmental, logistical and several technical challenges.
