Introduction to our Services
Tolplan and Tolplan Operations are independent South African companies with transportation, civil, structural, electrical, mechanical and electronic engineers and financial, statistical and information technology professionals who offer a variety of specialized toll-related consulting and information technology services, by combining the strengths of these various fields of expertise. The full-time core personnel of the companies amount to about 60.
The services rendered by Tolplan since 1982 in the field of toll roads, both in South Africa and internationally, cover all phases of toll projects from the project viability phase through the implementation phase to the operational phase. These services are offered for both conventional toll plazas consisting of a selection of manual, card, mixed, dedicated and express Electronic Toll Collection lanes and Open Road Tolling, as well as hybrids of conventional tolling and Open Road Tolling.
An important development in the skills and experience of Tolplan during the last few years has been the execution by the company of the traffic, technology and financial feasibility study (and updates thereof) and the design and tender documentation of the toll system, operations and infrastructure of the Gauteng Open Road Tolling project in South Africa. Tolplan is currently supervising the implementation of this multi-billion Rand project, consisting of 42 tolling points, 14 satellite centres, a national Transaction Clearing House (TCH) and a national Violations Processing Centre (VPC) as well as the operation of all these facilities for a 5 – 10 year period. The toll system and operations contract is the largest contract ever awarded by the South African National Roads Agency and its predecessor and the Gauteng ORT Project will, after its implementation in 2011, be the largest Open Road Tolling Project in the world.
